How Do Birds Survive Hurricanes?
That awesome question was recently posed by Forbes.com contributor GrrlScientist.
Hurricanes usually make people head for safer areas, bunkers, shelters or flat out leaving the area until weather clears.
But how do birds handle hurricanes? Especially migratory birds. (Check the bottom of this article for a video clip of how a Copper’s hawk handled Hurricane Harvey.)
Turns out there are a lot of ways they survive severe weather like this.
Research shows us that birds may fly away from, ahead of or fly directly into a hurricane. Some birds have been tracked flying through these storms.
